JPS’ Commitment to Sexual Assault Victims – Where the Healing Begins

Many sexual assault victims are too ashamed and afraid to seek help. JPS has nurses that are highly skilled at caring for sexual assault victims. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) have special training in forensics and evidence collection along with experience in providing courtroom testimony. JPS has ten nurses on staff with this certification – which is more than any other local hospital. Additionally, victims are treated in a private room with secure entry. They receive care within an hour after they arrive at the emergency department. What many don’t know is that they can receive care without having to report it to police. The State’s Crime Victims’ Fund pays for their treatment. They aren’t required to pay for the visit with insurance or any out of pocket expense.

Community Education

SANE nurses will visit with local first responder groups and community organizations. To schedule a meeting contact Connie Housley, chousley@jpshealthnetwork.org
