We introduce our residents to sports medicine as part of the family medicine curriculum because this type of treatment extends far beyond the playing field. Our curriculum is tailored to each resident's needs and interests. This includes hands-on training for the examination and treatment of athletes at a variety of facilities, as well as lectures given by sports medicine physicians. Sports medicine gives our residents the opportunity to examine, diagnose and treat common joint pathology under more extreme conditions than they'd generally find in a primary care facility. They learn skills that not only get players back in the game, but workers back on the job and the elderly back on their feet.
